It's because the Wizard of Oz was basically a show off movie. It was showing off this brand new, snazzy Technicolour that it used (this is why the first part of the movie is in sepia tones, because they wanted to show the drastic difference that they possessed with Technicolour), and silver just was not snazzy enough. When one sees the red in the movie, it looks drastically different against the background. It looks vibrant, it looks alive, it looks menacing. They managed to do this with just a colour, and this really made Technicolour a major part of the film industry. This was one of the first movies to be made in full out colour, and they certainly wanted to show this off. :) Hope it helped.

3. Are ballet slippers ok for a physical theatre role?
jazz shoes should be fine, although i would suggest a pull on style, because they wont come untied. i would suggest to capezio cg-15 in caramel, which is a leather shoe, no laces, split sole, and in a very nice flesh color. the sole is scored so it has some grip...its great
4. Do you wear slippers, flip flops (or shoes), or just go barefoot around the house??
I dont wear any, but I dont wear none either. What I do you see is, I have two cats, who like curling up. So they curl up around my feet, and I walk around with them on my feet. Very comfy and easy to walk around in. You should try it sometime! :)
